BRANDING FOR SMALL BUSINESSES
Why is brand design so important for small businesses?
Many small businesses underestimate the importance of a logo, a typeface, or a visual style. It’s often believed that when launching a new brand, its exact appearance isn’t yet important and that it’s not worth investing a lot of money. But the opposite is true. For young and small businesses in particular, a well-thought-out and unique brand design is of great importance and a key factor in success.
With good branding, small businesses can differentiate themselves from other companies and stand out from the crowd. It can win over customers, express the brand’s values, and demonstrate quality. A young company without brand design quickly comes across as unprofessional, uncertain, and lacking a strong presence.
What does brand design mean?
Brand design is not just a logo or typeface—it encompasses the company’s entire visual identity. Everything that is visually visible is part of branding and should be designed consistently. These elements are part of brand design:
1. Logo
The logo is the brand’s symbol, its flagship, and its visual identifier. It can consist of a typographic element, known as a word mark. A figurative mark, on the other hand, refers to a graphic element or symbol. A logo can also be a combination of a word mark and a figurative mark. In addition, the use of the logo is defined: This includes minimum and maximum sizes, clearance space, and various versions of the logo.
